About me

I am Daniel, based in Lower Austria. Professionally, I work in the field of hydrogeology and environmental science. In my free time, I focus on documenting nature through photography, ranging from birdlife in the Tullnerfeld region to the detailed microhabitats within aquariums.

This homepage serves as a space to share authentic observations and experiences from both fields. It includes photographic series of species and habitats, practical insights from aquarium keeping, and selected notes from time spent outdoors. During many field sessions, I am accompanied by my dog, who has become well accustomed to long hours outdoors and even waiting quietly in camouflage hides.

For wildlife photography, I primarily use a Nikon Z8 paired with the NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S lens, often combined with teleconverters for distant subjects. In situations where closer proximity is possible, such as hide or camouflage tent photography, I also work with a 200mm f/2 lens, occasionally in combination with a 1.4× teleconverter.

Aquarium and macro photography are based on a Nikon D850 full-frame system. Most close-up work is done with a Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2:1 Ultra Macro APO lens, supported by a controlled flash setup using an SU-800 commander and up to four R200 slave units. For maximum depth of field, apertures are typically set around f/30, with ISO adjusted as needed up to ISO 1600. For full tank shots, the same camera body is used in combination with a fast 35mm f/1.4 lens.
